Vendor Spotlight: The Balloon Engineer

Amira, owner of The Balloon Engineer, reached out to me on Instagram one day to let me know about her services. She said to keep her in mind if I ever have a client wanting balloons for their upcoming wedding or event. A few weeks later, a light bulb went off in my head. My son was just about to turn 1, and why not go all out with balloons for his birthday!? Just a few weeks later, my vision came to life. The balloon installation was everything I ever dreamed of (hellooooo Pinterest!) and Amira nailed it. With that being said, I wanted to learn more about her business and how she got started. Check it out!

How did you start on the journey of balloons?
Thanks again for reaching out to me about your blog! How exciting! Let’s start with the name “The Balloon Engineer”. I have a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and what I call an MBD. A Masters in Balloon Decor! Growing up, back home in Brooklyn, NY, when my family threw a party, WE THREW A PARTY!!! Balloons galore! So it has always been of interest to me.

I started my business during the pandemic after being invited to a number of “drive-by” parties. I was so happy to see that we all found a new, safe way to celebrate our milestones despite this tough time! The excitement of kids celebrating their birthdays with their friends and family was contagious! I wanted to bring something to keep those smiles with something that really stands out and can be seen by all when driving up the block. I wanted to start something that would keep everyone’s spirit up! I mean, have you ever seen anyone grumpy around balloons?!

I had always enjoyed styling events with balloons for friends and family from before the pandemic. But these drive by parties really accelerated what I thought was the need to really stand out and get noticed! It’s really something I enjoy doing. I love a good party!

What types of events do you typically do?
The types of events I do are endless! From birthdays to holidays to restaurant openings to engagements, weddings, graduation parties, baby showers, gender reveals, proposals, prom, school plays/dances and basically any event you can think of. My balloon displays are the perfect cherry on top of any sundae! Not to mention my balloons really look great in pictures on all forms of social media, so they really are an eye catcher!

How can couples implement balloons into a wedding?
Weddings with balloons are SO HOT right now! Having balloons in your bridal suite for pictures with your bridesmaids or balloons as a backdrop for your photos with your to-be spouse! It can be truly whimsical! Imagine a ceiling filled with balloons or a giant 8ft circle with metallic balloons welcoming your guests to the reception! Or even as the perfect dance floor backdrop for when “that uncle” keeps trying to do the Macarena off rhythm. The ideas are really limitless and I love brainstorming with clients. Whether the client knows exactly what they want, or they are looking to bounce ideas off of me, it is all part of the process of making that special day extra special!

Anything else you want to share with us?
My passion is truly making the client’s event that much more beautiful and fun. It’s what I get excited to do every day. When working with a small business like me, you get someone who is knowledgeable, up to date on all the trends, someone who works with safe and environmentally safe balloons, and someone who is able to work with any budget! I can do something as simple as balloon clusters for an at home virtual party to a large balloon garland, to a full extravagant display. My goal is to make sure everyone who sees these balloons is wowed by them. It is truly my passion.
