Reasons to Consider a First Look

To first look or not to first look? That is the question. While there are pros and cons whichever direction you go with this, we are here to tell you some of the reasons why you should consider doing a first look!

Reason 1
Having a first look allows for more leeway when it comes to photography. When you decide to not have a first look, the couple and wedding party photos happen after the ceremony, which leaves very little time to converse with family and friends during the cocktail hour. When you have a first look, you’re able to get most of the photos done before the ceremony and then you’re able to enjoy the rest of the day.

Reason 2
Having a first look can calm your wedding nerves. You’re able to talk to the person who calms you down the most and you’re able to have a more intimate conversation and moment. You don’t necessarily get the intimate moment when you first see each other up at the altar. With a first look, you can take as much time as you need to talk and embrace and shake out those nerves together.

Reason 3
You get more photos when you have a first look. As mentioned earlier, when you don’t have a first look, the photos need to happen after the ceremony during the cocktail hour and this is usually a condensed time frame, so the time might be rushed to get pictures. With a first look, you can amount for as much time as you want or need to get an ample amount of photos.

Reason 4
A lot of people say their reasoning for not wanting the first look is because they want that special moment when walking down the aisle. When we hear that, we tell them that a first look can actually be way more special. You get that “aisle” moment with just the two of you. It’s more intimate and sentimental and it allows for conversation to happen as well, which calms the nerves, as stated above.

Reason 5
Having a first look allows you to be more present on your wedding day. When you have a first look and all pictures are completed before the ceremony, there is now ample time to converse with family and friends and enjoying being married. Yes, there are still moments in which you will be taken away for photos, but the majority of the photos that take the longest will be completed, allowing more time to be present.
