We interviewed the owner of Ziel Bridal, Kayla Vanderziel, to find out more.
What do you love most about being a hair + makeup artist?
Being in the beauty industry is much more than playing with makeup all day and curling hair. It’s the deep connection we get to make with people. I love being able to empower women about feeling good about themselves and help change the way they feel about themselves.
What should brides look for when choosing a hair + makeup artist?
Professionalism and credibility. The amount of emails we receive from a bride when her friend, cousin, or random Facebook recommendation cancels at the last minute is terrifying. A bride should feel 100% confident that her wedding vendor is reputable and understands the important of her big day.
What makes you unique from other hair + makeup artists?
The connection we build with each bride. The personable experience is such a relief to have when working with a wedding vendor. We also know one of the scariest thing for brides are the hair and makeup trials. We have policies in place to offer a second trial if the first one wasn’t up to our standards (or a brides standards) or offer to assign new artists on the wedding day. It’s safe to say we have never had to use these policies but it is definitely assurance to our brides.
What's your own best hair and/or makeup experience?
My best beauty experience couldn’t be summed up with just one event. It was the guest service women taking the time to put me at ease before going to a new waxing salon and understanding my fears. I was terrified before I called. Also, my freelance makeup artist, Amy, talking me through my first makeup application with her. It never felt like she was rushing to be somewhere else and when I asked questions, I knew she was educated and excited to educate me. I was able to leave my appointment with tips and tricks to do my own makeup at home. Which is a big deal because I don’t wear much makeup. My best experiences are definitely remembered when there is attention to these details. Everything from booking a service, being educated throughout the appointment, and leaving feeling like I learned something knew are important to me.
