There are a lot of great DJ companies in the Twin Cities, but one of our favorites is GenerationNOW Entertainment. We recently had the chance to sit down with Tim Miller, V.P. of Marketing & Events, to find out more about what sets their company apart. Check it out!
What makes you unique from other DJs?
We are a company of 16 turntablists who bring the energy of a nightclub to you wedding. Also, 90% of our performers are full-time. Their craft is what pays the bills each month and provides to their happiness as an entrepreneur.
Tell us about your most memorable and fun wedding/event.
We have a lot to choose from since our inception in 2010. One that comes to mind was a wedding at the Windows on Minnesota. There may have been 175 people there but THEY GOT DOWN to the sounds of DJ Dudley D (Touring DJ for Prince for 20 years). The dance floor was jumpin’ for three hours and there was never a slow song played. At the end of the night, the groom freestyled over Coolio's "Gangstas Paradise". IT. WAS. EPIC.
Can you tell us about your packages and price point?
Our packages are based on four factors: What package you choose, where the event is taking place, how many hours are needed and what level of DJ you would like. We have three standard packages to start the conversation with the client. They are "Original", "Thriller" and "Mind Blower". We customize each package to the clients’ needs. They have the ability to choose from three levels of DJ talent: Opener, Headliner and Elite. Our levels break down like this.
Opener Level - A minimum 3 years of DJing experience.
Headliner Level - A minimum 7 years (majority are 10+ yrs) in the industry and are extremely versatile meaning they would perform at a nightclub, wedding, sports arena and corporate event all in the same week. The more unique events you perform at the better you become as a DJ to read the crowd to make sure all guests are enjoying the sounds.
Elite Level - Most requested talent on our team with a minimum 12+ years experience. They bring the private nightclub feel to your wedding that is customized to your musical taste.
Most important piece of advice you would give to people looking for a DJ?
Ask other companies if you can have a relationship with your DJ. For us, we offer the ability to hear, see and meet your DJ before you decide. We have DJs each week who perform at nightclubs and sports arenas so our clients can "see before you buy". They are allowed to set up a meeting in person or phone. All of our clients put the music as a top three priority for their wedding day. They want a PARTY...PERIOD. Knowing who your DJ is to create that camaraderie before your big celebration is huge for us.
Tell us one thing we might not otherwise know about you.
We are the game-day music providers at every home game for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Lynx, Vikings, Twins, University of Minnesota Gopher Football and Men's Basketball. We like our sports :)
