Venue Spotlight: Curtis Kennedy Films

Curtis Kennedy is an amazing wedding videographer in Minnesota, but he also spends part of his time in Florida! Keep reading to find out more about Curtis and what he does!

What do you love most about being a wedding videographer?
I love that I get to be allowed into my client's personal world for a weekend - to capture them and their guests at their best, and then create art from it that will tell their love story. I get told over and over again that the wedding is such a blur, and I love that I can preserve it for my couples in this way. I've also been able to experience different destinations and cultures that I wouldn't have experienced otherwise, and that is very special to me.

What led you to the wedding industry, specifically?
It's kind of a long story! When my very talented and musical wife was pregnant with our first son, I wanted to buy a DSLR camera to take some pictures and video of him after he was born. She agreed, under the condition that I would film her a music video for a song that she had recorded. I agreed, and we proceeded to film the video outside of our apartment (I should mention that she was 9 months pregnant at the time. Full term). An hour after wrapping up the shoot, she went into labor! Fast forward about a month, I finally got around to editing the music video. When she saw the final product, she was amazed and asked me if I've thought about doing something with video. I told her that I always wanted to try filming a wedding, as we had friends who were photographers in the industry. So I did my first wedding with said friends, it turned out great, and now the rest is history!

Tell us about your most memorable and fun wedding/event.
It had to be in November 2019 on Captiva Island in Florida. The couple lives in Chicago, but the groom's family owns a house on the island in Florida. This wedding literally had it all: a sunset cruise rehearsal dinner, a welcome party under the stars, a huge wedding party, a flamingo-themed cocktail hour with a beach ball selfie wall, dancers that escorted guests to the dancing tent after dinner, and an incredible band that kept the whole dance floor full throughout the night. All of that stuff aside, they really were the sweetest couple and they have an amazing family, and I felt blessed to be there to capture it all!

What makes you unique from other wedding videographers?
I believe there is always more to the story than just the wedding day, so I make it a point to be a part of as much of the wedding weekend as possible. My clients consistently put a high priority on guest experience and having memorable moments for their guests throughout the weekend, therefore, all of my weddings are multi-day events. My standard wedding film length is also around 10 minutes, which is definitely longer than what you see from most other videographers.

Can you tell us about your packages and price point?
My Collections all include multi-day coverage, A Main Wedding Film, and full edits of the Ceremony & Speeches from the weekend. I also have many upgrades available such as a Social Media Sneak Peek, which is an extremely popular item. Both Minneapolis, MN & Southwest Florida are home to me, and Collections in my local markets start at $9,000.

Tell us one thing we might not otherwise know about you.
I eat copious amounts of baby carrots. I don't know why. I just really like them.
